How C-Stores can Manage the Cease in Penny Production

Pennies are no longer being produced by the U.S. government. Knowing how frequently c-stores see cash transactions, we wanted to ensure that convenience retailers are prepared for how the reduction in pennies is going to affect their operations.

Luckily, Passport® makes it easy. Passport now supports cash tender rounding, making it easier to navigate those cash transactions for you and your customers.

Cash tender rounding works by rounding transactions to the nearest five cents (0.05). It can be set up to favor the customer (always rounding down), favor the store (always rounding up), or normal (rounding to the nearest value without favor).

The cash tender rounding functionality is available in our next software maintenance pack – but to support existing environments, we’re also backporting this capability to the list below. These are the minimum MPs; please check with your MOC brand to confirm the approved MP.

  • Passport 25.01 MP12
  • Passport 24.04 MP22
  • Passport 24.01 MP10
  • Passport 23.01 MP36

For more information on how cash tender rounding works, and how to get it set up in Passport, please reach out to your distributor or authorized service technician.
